Integrated Electric Drive Solution

Microchip Technology announced a new integrated electric drive solution that integrates add-on gate driver boards with Hybrid Power Drive (HPD) boards made with silicon carbide or silicon technology and supports power supplies ranging from 5kVA to 20kVA.

The boards are designed to integrate with Microchip's HPD modules to provide a universal solution for electrification of electrically driven systems such as flight control, braking and landing gear systems. Microchip's power solutions are designed with end-use applications in mind.

“We have developed Gate Driver boards to complement existing HPDs to bring to market a turnkey solution for powering MEA aircraft,” said Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip's Discrete Products business unit. “With this solution, customers no longer need to design and develop their own drive circuitry, which helps reduce design time, resources utilized and costs.”

The Gate Driver boards are designed to drive external PWM signals based on LVDS (low voltage differential signal information transfer), which is TIA/EIA-644 compliant for low electromagnetic interference (EMI) and noise immunity. The board has telemetry outputs.

The board requires only one 15V DC input to control and drive the circuitry. Since all additional voltages are generated on the board, the number of system components is greatly reduced and cabling is simplified.

Microchip offers complete solutions for electric airplanes by integrating power supplies into FPGAs, microcontrollers, and safety components. Microchip's solutions are designed to help customers accelerate development and reduce costs.
