Traceability in PCB assemblies and its importance

Traceability in a PCB assembly - data on its origin, batch and production date are among the preventive factors.

They allow defects to be identified and traced back to their source. As a result, consistently high quality products leave the production line. Finding and replacing problem components quickly reduces downtime and keeps production on track. This results in more durable and reliable products.

PCB traceability is based on several methods. Each has unique characteristics:
- Barcodes. Their scanning allows you to quickly get all the necessary data.
- QR codes. Contains the serial number and production date of the PCB. Scanning the codes gives instant access to the data.
- RFID tags. Using radio waves, tags provide automatic and fast identification.
- Laser marking - Identification data on the PCB or components. The markings are retained for the life of the PCB.
- Unique identifier: serial number or component numbers. Allows PCBs to be easily tracked and identified throughout the production and supply chain.
- Data Matrix Codes. Store more information in a smaller area than QR codes.
