NorthPole Applications

In testing NorthPole, the team focused primarily on applications related to computer vision, in part because the project was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Applications such as detection, image segmentation, and video classification were primarily considered. However, testing was also conducted in other areas such as natural language processing and speech recognition (on the DeepSpeech2 model).

In addition, NorthPole can be used for many applications that require real-time processing of huge amounts of data. For example, it can be used in auto devices to quickly react to some external, complex situations even for experienced drivers. This is exactly what NorthPole's future applications are designed for.

NorthPole could enable the use of satellites to monitor agriculture and manage wildlife populations, control vehicles and cargo, improve safety and reduce congestion, safely control robots and detect cyber threats, and improve business security.
