Immersive technologies in the 6G era

Some experts believe that data transfer speeds on 6G networks will one day reach one terabit per second (Tbps). That's a thousand times faster than 1 Gbps, the fastest speed available today.

In a few years, the 6G era will see immersive technologies (human interaction with space and information) such as connected implants and "wireless brain-computer interfaces."

Walid Saad, a lecturer at the Virginia Institute of Technology and lead author of a July 2019 white paper published on 6G predicts that smartphones will eventually fall behind in favor of smart wearable devices, headsets, and implants "that can receive direct sensory signals from human senses."

Japanese mobile communications company NTT DoCoMo predicts a complete merger of physical life and cyberspace: "Cyberspace will support human thoughts and actions in real time through wearable devices and microdevices attached to the human body."

Many experts believe that the Internet could undergo significant changes in the coming years and have a major potential impact on the way we communicate, work and live.
