NVMe Base board by Pimoroni

NVMe Base is a PCIe expansion board for the Raspberry Pi 5.

"Mount an M-key NVMe SSD on it (sizes 2230 to 2280 supported) and mount it under the Pi for a compact and fast storage solution," Pimoroni writes about its design. "This is the perfect solution for turning your Raspberry Pi 5 single-board microcomputer into a file server, media center, reverse proxy server, etc. - basically any task that benefits from large amounts of fast storage, especially for random workloads with high operations per second (IOPS)."

The NVMe Base card is designed to fit under the Raspberry Pi 5 and connect to the FFC connector using the included ribbon cable, converting it to an M.2 M-key slot suitable for M.2 NVMe SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 formats. The company claims that the adapter is suitable for utilizing PCI Express Gen. 3, an unofficial mode that is not officially supported on the Raspberry Pi 5, but which, if stable, could significantly boost storage performance.

The NVMe Base card is already available for pre-order from Pimoroni's online store for $14.29, including FFC cable, mount and rubber feet. The device is expected to go on sale in the first week of January 2024, if not sooner.
