A digital watch made of falling sand

Alvaro Gomez Gimenez has created a groundbreaking timepiece that combines modern digital technology with the aesthetics of falling sand.

The clock uses precise synchronization of sand bursts and lighting to create an effect where the sand seems to float in the air, forming the numbers on the display. A circuit board was created to control the gate and lighting, and LEDs were used to create a vision preserving effect. Based on successful tests, a final version of the clock was created with four modules to display four-digit time.

The clock is presented in the form of digits. It is unknown how long the clock can keep time as the sand runs out, but it is an impressive show. Check out the video show demonstrating the clock so you can believe the project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9PN4svCw48.
