In recent years, the high speed of technology development in PCB production resulted in a requirement for a new generation of high-tech PCB. This requirement is the impedance control.

But this requirement previously applied only to PCBs for certain products, while now PCBs with impedance control have become more versatile and are used in many devices.
This happened due to the fact that the operating frequencies of many electronic products are increasing. While previously, high frequencies were used only for complex technologies such as telecommunications, satellites and in the military industry.
Of course, PCBs with impedance control remain the most relevant for industries engaged in the production of PCBs for military equipment, aerospace and telecommunications. Such PCBs have improved protection against interference and transmit a signal at high frequencies with almost no errors.
What is impedance control?
Impedance control, or voltage control, is the sum of resistance to the signal that passes through the conductors of the PCB.
And since each material is either dielectric or conductive, the choice of materials for conductors, their thickness, as well as the layer of copper metallization of holes and the thickness of the solder mask play an important role in the production of such boards.
Controlled impedance greatly complicates the PCB production, since it is now required to take into account the resistance of all materials used in the design.
Even dielectric properties of the solder mask can play a role in the resistance value. Therefore, it is obvious that this requires more complex equipment, especially at the stage of testing PCBs prototypes, where, among other things, it is necessary to check the passing signal speed, its loss, and so on.
In short, impedance control is the coordination of properties of the base material with the location and dimensions of tracks on the PCB surface guaranteeing that the resistance of the track signal is within the required percentage of a certain value.
Saifon Technologies produces two-layer, single-layer, flex-rigid, flexible and rigid PCBs with impedance control and has all the necessary equipment and expert knowledge to guarantee the high quality and speed stated in the design.
What are PCBs with impedance control?
The PCB conductors transmit the signal.
If it is necessary to increase the frequency of this signal and speed up transmission, then the circuit must be created taking into account the dielectric thickness, the materials used, the drive width and other parameters. Changing each parameter affects the resistance.
The main components affecting the resistance are the thickness, material, length and other parameters of copper wires.
How to order a PCB with resistance control correctly?
When Saifon Technologies receives an order, we design test models according to the documentation. In test models we look at whether impedance values coincide with the ones required by the customer.
If not, we ask the customer to make adjustments in the PCB structure and the thickness of conductors in order to obtain the necessary knowledge. We do everything to ensure that PCBs have the parameters required by the customer.
Saifon Technologies carefully selects each material and monitors the production processes.
When ordering PCBs from us, you don't have to worry about the discrepancy between the declared parameters and the real resistance of the finished PCB.
