Shunt resistors for current sensing

As application functionality improves, boards become denser, requiring smaller and more powerful shunt resistors.

ROHM, a manufacturer of electronic components, has introduced new shunt resistors. These resistors are used to protect power supplies from overcurrents and to determine battery charge levels.

The new PMR100 metal-plate resistors have a power rating of 5 watts and resistances of: 0.5 megohms, 1.0 megohms and 1.5 megohms. They come in sizes 2512 and 6432 and provide reliable operation at extreme temperatures. The resistors reach up to 5 watts of power by utilizing new materials with excellent temperature performance.

ROHM continues to improve its resistors with increasing power and resistance ranges. The company plans to expand the PMR100 series to include smaller and more powerful types. The new resistor types will come in 1210/3225 and 2010/5025 sizes and will feature high-temperature stability and high current measurement accuracy.

In the future, ROHM will continue to develop and improve the shunt resistor series to meet the requirements of the growing electronics market.
