New Collaboration: NTT, Intel and Hynix join forces in photonics

Three major companies - NTT, Hynix and Intel - have announced their strategic collaboration in the development of optical integrated circuits (ICs), according to a report from Nikkei.
The Japanese government will contribute $305 million in funding support to the initiative. "We hope that with faster communications and lower power consumption, this technology will be a game changer for the future," said Ken Saito, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The goal of this strategic alliance is to create a manufacturing facility by fiscal year 2027 capable of producing optical ICs with Tbps data transmission and 30-40% less power consumption than existing silicon ICs.
It is noted that Intel is increasingly interested in photonics, especially due to its need for specialists for Foveros packaging technology.
